Bill's Luncheonette - Chester, NJ

Updated: Oct 1, 2019

Hello all, welcome to the blog! I want to start blogging again so I can give you all the details on the places I visit. Another recap on what my goal is with this blog.

I am a young professional woman living in the town of Chester, NJ with my non-husband husband and 1.5 year old lab/hound Pepper that we rescued from Cold Nose Warm Heart in September of 2018! I grew up in Branchburg, NJ and he grew up in Bedminster, NJ. We both lived in Morristown from about 2013 to 2018 going to all the restaurants together, drinking coffee, eating pastries, rating burgers, loving sushi and more. When moving to Chester, NJ, I was not sure what the restaurant world would be like here, so I started an Instagram account so I could keep track. I am a Registered Dietitian who loves to eat and I am Vice President of a Nutritional Consulting company. In my free time I like to ... EAT!

I want to share with all of you the restaurants I visit, steal and deals around town, ins ands out of festivals plus more. I have eaten/drank at all restaurants and bars in Chester, NJ, therefore we are starting to work our way out of Chester, trying restaurants in Mt. Olive, Flanders, Netcong, Stanhope, Randolph and anywhere else around the state of NJ within 20-30 minutes!! I of course will still be visiting the joints in Chester, trying new things and recommending the best items. I will also be working on the "Best of" in Chester, NJ! Between bagels, cocktails, pizza and brunch.

Today, I visited my last food establishment in Chester, NJ - Bill's Luncheonette. What a cute place it is. It is located at 455 North Road, Chester, NJ 07930, right on the line before crossing into Ironia/Randolph. It is a 10 minute ride from the center of Chester, driving by Stony Hill Farms and the Chester Area Pool. I have been told by many people to go to Bill's as they highly recommend it, they were not wrong. We arrived around 12:30 pm (I went with a couple I met through Ms. Chester, the Mr. works on the weekends). We had to wait about 15 minutes as there was a line, not surprising. It was not a long wait and worth it.

"Built in 1860, and purchased from the Stryker Family by Robert Crowley in 1941, "The Store" originally served as a General Store and the Ironia Post Office (c. 1871-1970). In 1949, Robert's son, Bill Crowley founded Bill's Luncheonette and General Store, and Bill's has been a mainstay on the border of Randolph and Chester ever since." - taken from their website

You can sit at a booth, the bar or a table. They have specials on a large board in the back including omelettes, vegetarian options, sandwiches, pancakes, and more. They have milkshakes, breakfast and lunch, coffee and tea, chips and soda. They have it all!

I ordered the western omelette with cheddar cheese, rye toast, home fries plus a "short stack" of pancakes which were short but LARGE, and delicious. My friends got the sloppy joe and the special kielbasa omelette, loving both. All in all, it was a great day and a great choice to visit Bill's Luncheonette, I recommend it for your family and friends, you will not be disappointed.

The bottom line..

The wait: not long - and worth it

Service: good service, we got our food in 10-15 minutes. Young staff, very nice!

Cost: we got 3 meals, side of pancakes, ice coffee, two other drinks - $40, very affordable!

Distance from Chester, NJ: 10 minutes from the center of town, quick ride!

Rating: 4 out of 5

Why? Things I would change - the ham in my western omelette was more like luncheon meat, I was expecting thick cut, salty ham. The pancakes were DELICIOUS, don't get me wrong, but they did have a cinnamon flavor. I really like plain simple pancakes with the syrup being the flavor burst.

My rating scale

As you see on my Instagram page, I have a rating of 1 -5. It will be very, very difficult to get 5 stars, so please consider 4 some of the best places around town. There will be little things I will point out that I would change to make the experience just THAT much better, however do not take it all to heart. Everyone has different opinions, that is what makes the world go round. I will not post anything that I truly dislike. The purpose of this is not to bring anyone down.

Disclaimer: I am starting to get offers for complimentary gifts, meals, etc. I will be sure to let you know that however, I will not give someone a rating of 5/5 because they gave me something for free, you can trust me on that.
